Theraflu and Football
Theraflu and football pretty much sums up my weekend. Normally, this is not the case. Friday I left work early with no energy and the sinking feeling that I was going to have a weekend filled with medicine, tea, my bed, cough drops, sleep, tissues, etc. etc....unfortunately, I was correct. It's very unusual that I get sick, even just a cold, but this was my lucky weekend...not so much. I was disappointed because really, who wants to spend a free weekend miserable in bed drinking tea and only emerging to take the recommended dose of theraflu every 4-6 hours...blah. I was determined to kick this thing quick - but for Friday night and Saturday, this was my scene...
Luckily Saturday evening I felt well enough to make a wine bar/dinner date with some of my girlfriends. I was determined to make it out because I had heard such great reviews about the wine bar and it was the first time the three of us girls had all gotten together in months. We had a great time at Screwtop in Clarendon. I definitely recommend it! We dined on brie, crusty baguettes, salad, and red wine - conveniently, my appetite wasn't severely affected by my cold.
Sunday I baked chocolate cupcakes with a creamy peanut butter icing for the Superbowl party I was headed to that evening. Still not feeling 100%, but feeling well enough not to be confined to my bed any longer. I used Martha Stewart's chocolate cupcake recipe and they looked delicious, but turned out a little dry in my opinion. They had a rich chocolate flavor, but next time I'll do some testing so they come out of the oven moist (cringing at this word, ick) and delicious. Overall, I was proud of the finished product including my fondant football toppers (to fit the theme of course)!
Too bad the Steeler's couldn't pull out the win - but it was a great game (I was really more excited to see the new episode of Glee after the game, but then fell asleep and missed half of it, replay it is)
